The summer orientations that Navarro College holds are one of the greatest ways an incoming freshman can get a "feel" for the college life here at Navarro College. Having the opportunity to be an Orientation leader last summer was a wonderful experience for me in many ways. I was able to meet many of the incoming freshman, and help them to feel comfortable in a new environment. I was also able to give the incoming freshman an idea of how it is to be a student here at Navarro, as well as answering many various questions that they had about coming to school here at Navarro College. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience I had as an Orientation Leader last summer, and I look forward to having the privilege to do it again!
As an incoming freshman last year, I was similar to a lost little puppy who couldn't find her way home. Since I wasn't sure what to do, I decided to attend the summer orientation session. I didn't know anybody when I showed up, but the orientation leaders still treated me as if they all had known me for years. During the general meeting sessions we had, I learned a lot about college life; every question I had, was answered. I met some interesting people, made some great friends, and even met my new roommate. I highly recommend any incoming freshman to take this course because of it being so informative and fun. I enjoyed it so much that I look forward to coming back next summer as an orientation leader myself, so see you there!
As Registrar at Navarro College, I see Orientation as a great way to have face-to-face contact with incoming Freshman. This provides an opportunity to answer any questions students and parents may have about the admissions process. By completing the admissions process and registering during Orientation, students miss the "rush" during regular registration.
We recommend to all freshman parents to come and see what your child's new campus life will be like. We thoroughly enjoyed Freshman Summer Orientation. We met a lot of new parents feeling the same way we did. We were put at ease during our tour of the campus. We visited the dorms, learned the history of Navarro College, the students performed a funny skit, ate a good lunch and had a Q&A time with the administrators and staff. We discussed our number one concern with the campus chief of police (our child's safety). We were pleased that he assured us that safety was his priority. Overall we had a great time and met a lot of nice and friendly people. Our daughter is enjoying campus life and doing well academically. By the way, our daughter is the freshman representative and looks forward to meeting the incoming freshman for the 2007 fall semester.
