Bulldogs Ranked 10th in NJCAA Pre-Season Poll

Coach Johnny Estelle’s Navarro Bulldogs basketball team ranks No. 10 in the NJCAA Men’s Division-I Preseason Basketball released today.

The Bulldogs, Region XIV champions three of the last four years and finalists five of the last six years, were among a total of five Texas junior college teams rated in the preseason poll.

South Plains College, which went through an unbeaten national championship season in 2011, is rated as the NJCAA’s No. 1 team.  Northwest Florida State, featuring star guard Chris Jones, is ranked No. 2.  One of SPC’s chief rivals in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference, Howard College, is ranked third overall.

Navarro, coming off a 25-11 national-tournament-qualifying season and regarded as an East Zone favorite by coaches, is the highest ranking Region XIV team.  Zone rival Trinity Valley, under new coach Kris Baumann, polls at No. 14.

Odessa College, coming off a non-qualifying 24-6 last season, has been selected at No. 23.  The Wranglers are coached by Tre Arnold, the former coach at Blinn.
