Navarro keeps conference record unblemished at Blinn, 76-69
BRENHAM — Princeton Onwas and Aaron Turner each scored 19 points and had seven rebounds as the Navarro Runnin’ Bulldogs remained perfect in conference play with a 76-69 victory at Blinn on Saturday.
Navarro (9-3, 3-0) trailed 17-9 in the first half but went on a 16-0 run midway in the first half to take the lead. Navarro was up by as much as 15 points in the second half. Onwas had 13 points at the half when the Bulldogs held a 35-30 lead.
Blinn chipped away in the second half, closing within 70-68 late in the game. But Navarro made clutch free throws in the final minute to put the game away. Navarro made 14 of 17 free throws in the second half.
Turner scored 14 of his 19 in the second half. Terrance Syon had nine points and 10 rebounds. Shannon Lilly had six points. Johnathan Benn had six points, three rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Donald Moore had 17 points and Darrell Combs 16 points for Blinn (5-6, 0-3).
Navarro hosts South Zone co-leader Coastal Bend (7-1, 3-0) in a 7 pm Wednesday game at the Wolens Special Events Center.
