Bulldog baseball puts 11 on Region 14 East Zone team

A total of 11 Bulldog baseball players were selected in some capacity to the Region XIV All-Conference East Zone team announced Friday.

Coach Whoa Dill’s 11th-ranked Bulldogs (39-15 / 25-5) earned the zone’s Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year honors, along with six  first-team picks and three second-teamers.

University of Arkansas sophomore transfer John Clay Reeves of Monroe, La., was named the zone’s top player after a regular season in which he finished as the league’s No. 8 hitter.  Reeves hit .372 with 3 home runs and 39 runs-batted-in.  The 6-0, 200-pound right-handed hitting catcher scored 40 runs, stroked 12 doubles and had a walk-to-strikeout ratio of 29 to 18.

Unbeaten sophomore righthander Lukas Schiraldi of Austin earned  Top Pitcher honors after a regular season in which he went 10-0 with a 1.88 earned-run average.  Schiraldi struck out 67 in 76 1/3 innings, yielding only 49 hits and 19 walks.

Other Navarro first-team selections included pitchers Chad Young (6-1, 2.20) and Gage Curry (8-2, 2.31), second baseman Drake Roberts (0-38-.350), shortstop Mason Salazar )-22-.333), outfielder Jovan Hernandez (1-16-.316), and designated hitter Tyler Wilson (5-44-.318).

Bulldogs named to the second team include pitchr Blake Griffin (8 saves), outfielder J.P. Phillips and designated hitter Campbell Cooper (1-27-.311).
