1st preseason poll pegs Navarro at No. 11

Navarro football has been ranked No. 11 by JCGridiron.com’s “Dirty 30″ poll — the first of the three most significant 2013 pre-season junior college football ratings released during July.

The “Dirty 30″ is the only poll that attempts to consider all teams from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA).  A total of 16 NJCAA member squads were ranked in the 8th annual preseason poll that was released during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Coach Brian Mayper’s Bulldogs, looking for its fourth consecutive SWJCFC title after a 10-2 Heart Of Texas Bowl Championship season, earned the highest ranking of any Southwest Junior College Football Conference member.  Conference foes Trinity Valley (No. 22), Kilgore (No. 23) and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and Blinn (on the ’30 bubble’) also drew nationwide consideration.

The Bulldogs open the 2013 season at 1 pm Saturday, August 24, against Arkansas Baptist College at Tiger Stadium in Corsicana.

Navarro’s opponent in Week 2 — Hutchinson Community College, Ks. — is ranked No. 14 in the first “Dirty 30″ ranking. The Bulldogs travel to Hutchinson for a 7 pm Saturday, August 31 game at Gowans Stadium.

The JCGridiron.com poll selected coach Steve Campbell’s Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs as its top preseason club.  The 2012 NJCAA Champion, Iowa Western, is ranked fourth.  Others NJCAA member schools ranked include No. 5 Snow College, Ut., No. 6 East Mississippi, No. 7 Butler CC, Ks., No. 9 Arizona Western, No. 16 Nassau, No. 18 ASA, No. 19 Itawamba, Ms., No. 21 Northwest Mississippi, No. 25 Georgia Military College, and No. 28 Lackawanna, Pa.
