Basketball, football all-stars shine at THSCA games

FORT WORTH — Navarro freshman basketball hopefuls DaShawn Robinson and Trey Young saw lots of playing time Monday, but their South squad lost an 111-86 decision to the North in the annual Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) All-Star Game at TCU’s Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

Robinson had a team-high 17 points in his final performance under his high school head coach, Tim Martin.  Robinson and Young, from Houston’s Strake Jesuit High School, competed for the South during the halftime slam-dunk competition.

The North more or less controlled the game from the middle of the second quarter.

Kavin Tilbury from Cypress Falls, who is headed to Texas State, was named the South Most Valuable Player after scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. North Crowley’s Jalan McCloud, a Blinn College signee, was named the North MVP with 18 points and four steals. He was one of four North players to score at least 16 points.

Behind Robinson’s 17 for the South, Bucknell signee D.J. McLeay from San Antonio Reagan scored 13 points and Matthew Kallead from San Antonio Brandeis added 12.

A total of seven players in the 69th annual all-star game had signed binding, national letters of intent with junior college programs from Region XIV or Region V.
