Think they like that No. 4 ranking at Navarro?
The Lady Bulldogs, who moved from No. 10 to No. 4 in the NJCAA national women’s soccer poll on Wednesday, scored two goals in less then five minutes to open up against Jacksonville on Thursday and cruised to a 3-1 win, their fifth in a row.
Trudi Carter scored off an assist from Judith Bast two minutes into the game, and Joanna Nigro scored an unassisted goal two minutes later. Carter added a goal with 26:01 left in the game off an assist from Gabby Ashley.
Carter now has seven goals.
“I was excited about the start of the game,’’ Navarro coach Debbie Bonner said. “That’s our best start of the year. We started off well, but then we got comfortable, and they’ve got to learn you can’t get comfortable.’’
Jacksonville (2-5) scored with 21:29 left on a goal by Genesis Morales.
It was the first goal scored on Kenia Medina in three games for a Navarro team (7-2) on a roll.
“We haven’t made any big strides, but every game they are putting some of the pieces together,’’ Bonner said. “They are not where they need to be, but there’s a lot of potential.’’
