Bulldogs shut down Monroe, 1-0

ROCHESTER, NY — Freshman Trudi Carter’s goal with 24 minutes left in the game made the difference Friday as fourth-ranked Navarro won its seventh consecutive soccer game.

The Bulldogs (9-2) scored a 1-0 victory over the Monroe Community College Lady Tribunes at John L. DiMarco Field.  The loss was the third straight for the Tribunes (8-4) after they had reeled off a six-match winning streak of their own.

Carter’s sixth game-winning goal of the season came on an assist from Amanda Olsen at the 66-minute mark of the contest.  Goalkeeper Kenia Medina made three saves on Monroe’s mere 10 shot attempts as the Bulldogs recorded their fifth shutout of the year.

The match was scoreless after one period, but the Bulldogs almost broke through against MCC goalie Paige Buchholz.

The Lady Tribunes mounted a serious threat inside the final 10 minutes, but the Bulldogs’ backline defense successfully fended off the rush.

Navarro tries for a weekend sweep here Saturday when it faces the Community College of Rhode Island Knights at noon Saturday.
