Landers’ Bulldogs make successful debut

Sophomore Jaleel Cousins came off the bench and produced a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds as Navarro gave first-year coach Michael Landers a debut victory Friday of 99-67 over East Texas Flight.

Cousins also had four blocked shots for the Bulldogs as they pulled away from a 44-34 halftime lead and cruised during the second half.

Sophomore Shannon Lilly added 13 points, including three of the team’s eight three-point shots.

Sophomore Toney Foster added 12 points and 10 rebounds in the balanced effort.

Houston freshmen Khory Ross and DaShawn Robinson each pitched in 11 points.  Rodrick Trimont and Trey Young also contributed nine points apiece.

Navarro hit 35 buckets went 5-1of-12 from the foul line during the win.

The Bulldogs play Tuesday at Hill College against Swede Trenkle’s Rebels.  The Rebels opened their season Friday with a 97-71 win over Panola at the McLennan Classic in Waco.
