Navarro shot a blistering 53.4% from the floor and connected on a season single-game high 15 three-point attempts Monday during a 96-84 win over the Blinn Buccaneers at The Wolens Special Events Center.
Coach Michael Landers’ Bulldogs (12-6/5-2) won their second straight game with a pronounced shooting and offensive rebounding advantage over coach Scott Schumacher’s Buccaneers (12-5/3-4).
Navarro drained 31 of 58 shots from the floor in the game and went 19-of-29 from the foul line to secure a wire-to-wire victory. To Blinn’s credit, the Buccaneers rallied from as much as a 14-point early deficit (27-13) to finally gain a tie at 40, but NC called time-out, regained momentum and never relinquished the lead.
No matter how you slice it, the Bulldogs put on their best shooting effort of the season so far. NC hit 57% of its two-point goals (16-of-28), and 50% of its threes (15-of-30).
Jamar Goodwin led all scorers with 21 points, followed by Khory Ross (14), Toney Foster (10), Troy Jones (10) and Jaleel Cousins (10) as Navarro placed five in double-figure scoring.
Goodwin was 5-of-8 shooting behind the arc. Ross was a perfect 5-of-5, including 4 from three-point range. Foster, the team’s leading scorer on the season, hit two three-pointers during the second half to finish the game with 10 points, 5 assists, and three steals.
Meanwhile, Jones (10/7) and Cousins (10/5 with 2 blocks) got help inside from Duan Wright, who had nine points, five rebounds, and a blocked shot.
Macari Brooks led Blinn with 20 points, and Eddie Alcantara added 17.
Navarro hosts Panola in a 7 pm Region XIV men’s basketball game Wednesday at the Special Events Center.
