Flores named NJCAA Pitcher of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — McAllen freshman lefthander Jorge Flores was named an OC Sports NJCAA Division I Baseball Pitcher of the Week for February 17-23, it was announced Wednesday.

Flores pitched the season’s first no-hitter Saturday in a 1-0 Game 1 victory over the third-ranked Grayson Vikings.  Flores walked two and struck out two as a 6-game Grayson winning streak was broken.  During its winning streak, Grayson had scored more than 13 runs per game.

Joining Flores on the early-season honor roll were East Mississippi sophomore pitcher Hunter Swart, and Cumberland County, N.J., sophomore Cody Stashak.

Swart had two saves from 3 1/3 innings of work in EMCC’s wins over Hinds (6-4) and East Central (3-0).  Stashak fanned eight in seven innngs as Cumberland downed Delaware Tech Owens, 8-0.
