Bulldogs blister Jacksonville 103-79 for 3rd straight win

The Navarro Bulldogs streak into a short Thanksgiving Break on a three-game winning streak and remain unbeaten in Region XIV play after a thorough 103-79 beating of the Jacksonville Jaguars Tuesday night at the Wolens Special Events Center.

Wayne Martin scored 21 points and grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds as coach Michael Landers’ Bulldogs (7-2, 2-0) raced to an early lead they never relinquished.  Sophomore DaShawn Robinson shared the team scoring lead with 21, and added three assists and two steals as Navarro stopped the previously unbeaten Jaguars’ win streak at 7.

Trey Young added 16 points, two assists and a steal as Navarro bounded to a 49-33 halftime lead.

Robinson and Young accounted for 8 of Navarro’s 11 three-pointers in the contest.  The Houston duo was a combined 8-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc and started doing their damage from the opening tap.  For the game, Navarro shot 64.7% from beyond the circle, hitting 11-of-17 attempts.

Sophomore Cris Boleware sank 11 points and added a personal-season-high 11 assists.

A total of 12 Bulldogs produced points.  Athens freshman Anthony Sanders hit 9.  Fort Worth freshman Byron Smith contributed 8.  Off the bench came Neville Fincher with 6, followed by Anthony Williams and Jamar Martin with 3 apiece.  Trey Greeneberry, Sharif Oyowemi and Maika Ostling each added 2.

The ‘Dogs shot 56.7% from the floor (38-of-67) and 66.7% from the free-throw line (16-of-24).

Jacksonville managed to whittle Navarro’s lead to 12 (70-58) midway through the second half, but the Runnin’ Bulldogs found another gear.

Navarro returns from the holiday for a 4 pm Saturday non-conference matchup with the Dallas Diesel at the SEC.
