DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Navarro College Cheer amassed Thursday preliminary round’s high score with a 97.83 in the Junior College Division of the National Cheer Association Cheerleading Championship.
Coach Monica Aldama’s Bulldogs, gunning for their seventh straight national title and 12th in 15 years, finished first in prelims in the four-team JC Division. They also totaled the top score of any competing squad during the day, and kept alive their quest for a fourth consecutive grand national championship.
Finishing behind NC Thursday in the JC Division was Orange Coast CC of Costa Mesa, Cal., (94.75); Trinity Valley CC of Athens (93.78); and Mount San Antonio of Walnut, Cal., (88.45). The parenthetical point totals represent final scores after deductions.
As a result, performance order for Friday’s finals will be: Mount San Antonio (12:12 pm CDT); TVCC (12:20 pm CDT); Orange Coast (12:28 pm CDT); and Navarro (12:36 pm CDT).
Other top scores from other divisions Thursday included The University of Louisville (97.35), North Carolina State (96.68); The University of Maryland (94.50), and Oklahoma State University (94.23) — all NCAA Division I squads.
