Nolan’s 2nd-half goal beats Cisco, gives Wilson 1st win

CISCO — Freshman Aaliyah Nolan scored the game’s only goal on an assist from sophomore Sharifai Sharif as Navarro opened its 2015 soccer season with a win here Saturday over the Lady Wranglers at Chesley Field.

Navarro’s 1-0 victory made a successful head coaching debut for Alicia Wilson.

Nolan scored with about 27 minutes left in regulation to break the scoreless battle.

Freshman Kaitlyn Baugh made three saves to record the shutout.

Navarro soccer, ranked 15th in the NJCAA D-I Preseason Poll, makes its home debut at 4 pm Saturday when it hosts Jim Gardner’s 8th-ranked Laramie College Golden Eagles.  LCCC went 0-1-1 last weekend in play at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Ks.

Laramie, coming off a 13-5-1 season in 2014, battled Saturday to a 1-1 tie with second-ranked Iowa Western and dropped a 2-0 decision to sixth-rated Butler on Sunday.

Navarro and LCCC met last August 31 in Cheyenne, with the Bulldogs scoring a 1-0 win.
