Soccer shuts out Jacksonville for 4th straight win

Navarro’s 9th-ranked soccer team won its fourth consecutive game and second straight league match by shutout Tuesday with a 3-0 blanking of the Jacksonville Lady Jaguars.

Coach Alicia Wilson’s Bulldogs improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in Region XIV play with the win.Ā  While dropping its second straight league game, the Lady Jaguars fell to 3-3 on the regular season.

Navarro was unable to capitalize on numerous first-half scoring opportunities in the Jacksonville end, but managed to squeeze out a goal five minutes before intermission.

SOC-Jax8NC added second-half goals on Shaylee Ward’s header with 27 minutes left and Deneisha Blackwood’s shot with 7:20 remaining.

Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Baugh recorded a second straight shutout and third overall this season.

NC travels to Council Bluffs, Iowa, for matches at 2 pm Friday against 19th ranked Iowa Western (4-1-2), and at noon Saturday against Illinois Central.

Iowa Western’s Reivers, under first-year coach Adam Sanchez, won four straight matches by shutout after a season-opening loss to Butler and ties with ranked Laramie County and Otero JC, Col.

Illinois Central’s Cougars currently stand 2-4-1, but will be playing matches against Lincoln College and 12th-ranked Lewis and Clark before their weekend encounters with Navarro and Iowa Western.
