Healthy soccer team pelts foes for 16 goals, 2 wins

Coach Alicia Wilson proclaimed her soccer team ‘healthy’ last week.  Finally.

And after 16 goals in two road victories, you can’t doubt the first-year coach.

Navarro soccer improved to 9-4-1 overall and 5-2 in Region XIV with wins of 6-1 over Northeast Texas at Mount Pleasant on Wednesday, and 10-1 Saturday at Jacksonville over the Lady Jaguars.

Saturday’s highest-scoring game of the year featured a hat trick from freshman Alliyah Nolan and two goals each from Deneisha Blackwood and Shantel Thompson.

Navarro’s high-powered offense also produced 14 assists in Saturday’s contest, and made things easy on the other end of the field.  Goalkeepers Katie Baugh and Sara Calvillo turned away five of the six shots sent into the goal area.

The team got its second hat trick of the year with Nolan’s three-goal effort. She also assisted on another Bulldog goal.

Blackwood, who had the season’s earlier hat trick at Richland, made three assists to go with her two-goal game.

Thompson added two assists with her two-goal game.

Single goals were scored by Kianna Washington (3 assists), Victoria Swift and Tiffany Robinson (2 assists each).

Navarro hosts Cisco for a 2 pm Saturday non-conference match at the campus field.
