Martin’s 2nd double-double highlights NC’s 85-62 win

Sophomore Jamar Martin recorded his second double-double at home Tuesday by scoring a team-high 18 points and clearing 10 rebounds in Navarro’s 85-62 win over the Texas Riders.

Coach Michael Landers’ Bulldogs (2-3) won their second straight at the Wolens Special Events Center as they head into the two-day Lewis Orr Classic that begins Thursday.

Martin connected on 8-of-16 shots from the floor, hit 2-of-3 free throws, cleared seven defensive boards and stole three passes for NC.

Three other Navarro players hit in double-figure scoring:  Keir Anderson tallied 16, Calvin Anderson added 11 and Cameron King contributed 10 points in his season debut.

The Bulldogs hit 43 percent from the floor (31-71), sank 18-of-28 free throws and grabbed 54 rebounds (18 offensive) as a team.

Freshman Saint Hilaire turned in a nice line of nine points, 10 defensive rebounds and six assists in the victory.

Navarro led at halftime, 38-23.

In the Lewis Orr Classic, the Bulldogs will play 7 pm games Thursday against unbeaten Temple (3-0) and Friday against unbeaten McLennan (5-0).  Classic action featuring perhaps the best four-team lineup in the state gets underway at 5 pm.
