Swift makes Trinidad & Tobago women’s soccer roster

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad & Tobago   — Trinidad & Tobago women’s national soccer team head coach Randy Waldrum announced Monday that Navarro freshman Victoria Swift made a 20-player roster for a pair of international friendlies at the United States.

The CONCACAF rivals will meet on December 6 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and on December 10 in San Antonio, Texas.

Swift, a native of Freeport St. Marys Trinidad, is the youngest player on the squad.  The midfielder made 17 starts for Navarro’s NJCAA District I Finalists last season, scoring 12 points from five goals and two assists.

The Trinidad & Tobago roster selection is highlighted by the inclusion of forward Kennya Cordner, who scored a team-best three goals in the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship.

“It’s going to be a great opportunity to play the reigning world champions,” Waldrum told TTFA Media.  “Top level international games such as these two are exactly what we need to prepare for the Olympic Qualifiers, and for the future growth of our team.”

In next year’s CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship, the Trinidadians will square off against Group B rivals Guatemala (February 11), Canada (February 14) and Guyana (February 16).

“As I said earlier, these are the kind of competitions we need for all of our national teams,” continued Waldrum.  “So these games are huge for us, not in terms of the results but simply in terms of the experience of playing top competition.”
