Football schedule includes GMC, new SWJCFC member NMMI

Navarro’s 2016 football schedule has all the toughness of old, and a redrawn Southwest Junior College Football Conference schedule that features a new member.

The Bulldogs will play five regular-season home games at Corsicana’s Tiger Stadium this season, according to Navarro Athletic Director Roark Montgomery.

Navarro, which has played in the SWJCFC Championship game eight of the last nine seasons, again is preparing for the opportunity to play nine regular-season games, two league playoff contests and a sanctioned NJCAA Bowl for the 20th time in their history.

The opener?  At 6 pm Thursday, August 25.

The opponent?  Long-time foe Georgia Military College, coming from Milledgeville, Ga., to Corsicana, Tx., for another “Battle of the Bulldogs” at Tiger Stadium.

Conference play begins Saturday, Sept. 3, in Athens against the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals, and resumes at home against SWJCFC semifinalist Blinn on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Navarro’s Open Date will be Saturday, Sept. 17.

NC’s annual homecoming game is set for 3 pm Saturday, Oct. 8 against the Tyler Apaches.

The SWJCFC regular season will conclude Saturday, Oct. 29, when the league’s new team, the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos, come to Corsicana for a 3 pm game.   The Broncos elected to leave the Western States Football League, play Texas opponents and re-create an 8-team league for the SWJCFC.
