Bulldog soccer captured victories over Hill and Jacksonville during homecoming weekend.
Coach Alicia Wilson’s Bulldogs (9-4/3-3) scored a 2-1 non-conference homecoming win Friday over Region V member Hill, and followed it up Saturday with a resounding 8-0 Region XIV conference victory at Jacksonville over the Lady Jaguars.
Navarro experienced a rough patch by losing four of five matches that entrenched the team firmly in third place in Region XIV, but they’ve rallied to piece a two-game winning streak with momentum heading into home matches Tuesday against Paris and Wednesday, Oct. 19, against the Tyler Apache Ladies on ‘Sophomore Day’.
In Saturday’s shutout victory at Jacksonville, Deneisha Blackwood’s hat trick and two Aaliyah Nolan goals sparked Navarro. Seven Bulldogs provided assists on the team’s eight goals: Karina Trejo, Erica Romero, Yessy Hinojosa, Melissa Hamilton, Karina Martinez, Shantell Thompson and Blackwood.
Blackwood punched in the first two of Navarro’s three first-half goals, scoring at 14:40 and 32:54. Nolan added the final two of the match at 76:40 and 83:00.
Other NC scores came from Margriet Samsom, Jamila Ashley and Thompson.
FRIDAY: Navarro 2, Hill 1
In a wind-blown, 2-1 homecoming victory over Hill, Nolan scored the game-winning goal in the 68th minute on an assist from Hinojosa as NC rallied.
Hill took a 1-0 lead on Gabby Gleaves’ unassisted shot in the first half. The Bulldogs equalized matters about six minutes later when Shantell Thompson’s wind-hampered penalty kick found the net.
Navarro attempted 18 shots, and peppered Hill sophomore goalkeeper Alex Thompson with 10 during a wind-aided second half. Thompson blunted every threat. Two attempts banged off the crossbar and Thompson deflected a third over the crossbar.
