Even with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M’s 41-27 win Thursday over the Blinn Buccaneers, the Southwest Junior College Football Conference playoff picture remains murky heading into the final three regular-season games Saturday.
As of Friday morning, here are the current SWJCFC season and conference standings:
Six of the league’s eight teams remain in a shuffle for qualifying positions for the SWJCFC Playoffs. The real musical-chairs game involves the third- and fourth-seeding slots where four clubs are battling.
In order to qualify, the Bulldogs must defeat New Mexico Military Institute here Saturday and the Tyler Apaches must beat Kilgore on the road.
The Bulldogs bring a two-game winning streak into their first-ever league encounter with the Broncos.
TJC and Kilgore attempted to play a season-opening, non-conference game on Saturday, August 27 at Trinity Mother Frances-Rose Stadium in Tyler, but it was cancelled by lightning delays and not re-scheduled. Kilgore jumped to a 17-14 advantage after one quarter when lightning started.
Saturday’s only other league game sends TVCC to Cisco to play the winless Wranglers at Chesley Field.
