Sophomore forward Deneisha Blackwood and midfielder Shantell Thompson were named Friday as NJCAA Division I Women’s Soccer All-Americans.
Blackwood became the eighth Navarro soccer player to earn NJCAA First-Team All-American honors and the 10th in the program to receive the designation.
Thompson became the seventh NC player to secure NJCAA Second-Team All-American honors, the third consecutive, and fourth in the last five years.
Blackwood, a two-time NJCAA Player of the Week, totaled 22 goals and 13 assists as she led the 13-5 Bulldogs to the Region XIV Championship match. Blackwood led Region XIV in points (57), and shots (87) and tied for second in assists. She had five game-winning goals for Navarro this season, and had two games in which she scored five goals.
Thompson broke Navarro’s single-season assist record, led Region XIV and finished fifth nationally in the category with 21.
A total of 25 Navarro soccer players during the last 14 consecutive seasons have earned NJCAA All-American status: 8 first-teamers, 7 second-team members, 3 thirds and 5 honorable mentions.
Trudi Carter (2013-14) and Mandy Gomez (2004-05) are the program’s two-time, first-team All-Americans.
