NC takes down Reivers, 2-0, behind Diwura’s goal, assist

TYLER — Freshman Wasila Diwura assisted on Yessy Hinojosa’s goal at 7:03, and later add insurance with an unassisted goal as 10th-ranked Navarro defeated No. 6 Iowa Western, 2-0, Saturday at the Pat Hartley Soccer Complex.

Diwura’s 3 points enabled coach Alicia Wilson’s Bulldogs to win their season-opener and hand the Reivers their second consecutive loss.  IWCC opened its season in Council Bluffs on Tuesday, Aug. 22, and suffered a 5-1 home loss to No. 7 Butler.

Freshman goalkeeper Maitane Bravo turned away five Reiver shots and posted Navarro’s shutout.

The match — moved up an hour from its original 4 pm start — was played in a light rain.

NC is scheduled to play the Richland College Thunderducks at 3 pm Wednesday in Richardson.  Richland, ranked No. 8 in the NJCAA Division III preseason poll, opened its season Friday with a 2-1 double-overtime win over Angelina at Lufkin.
