TYLER — Navarro sophomores Alice Bermudez and Carolina Barbosa were among 11 players selected to the Rose City Classic All-Tournament Volleyball Team, coach Ronda Shirley announced Wednesday.
Bermudez, a libero from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, made a total of 63 digs during the four matches at the two-day tournament. The productive weekend vaulted her season total to a NJCAA 5th-place categorical ranking (99).
Barbosa, a 6-foot outside hitter from Rio de Janiero, had a impressive four-match series of 56 kills and 29 digs for the Bulldogs. Barbosa now leads NJCAA Division I players in kills for the season with 73 through seven matches.
The Bulldogs (4-3) went 2-2 during the tournament with Friday wins over North Central Texas College and an upset victory over No. 9 ranked Missouri State University-West Plains, plus narrow losses Saturday to No. 2 ranked Panola and another five-game classic with unbeaten Hill.
The Rose City Classic All-Tournament Team also included setter Kinley Carter and middle blocker Daphinie Correa from Panola, setter Isabela Dobra and outside hitter Bruna Paixao from Tyler, libero Brianna Sutton and outside hitter Destiny Washington from Hill, libero Kamryn Artale and middle blocker Keziah Williams from MSU-WP, and middle blocker Jenna Hampton of NCTC.
