Soccer jumps into 4th-place tie in new USC poll

Unbeaten Navarro, based on shutout wins over preseason Top 10 ranked programs, vaulted from 10th into a fourth-place tie in the latest United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division I Women’s Poll.

Coach Alicia Wilson’s Bulldogs (4-0) made the biggest leap in the first regular-season polling after 2-0 wins over preseason No. 6 Iowa Western and No. 7 Butler on neutral turfs in consecutive weekends.

The Bulldogs share fourth place with Laramie County Community College (4-0) in the poll released Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Region XIV rival Tyler (4-0) reaffirmed its grip on the No. 1 ranking, followed by Monroe Community College and Eastern Florida State (both 2-0).  Paradise Valley, the preseason No. 2 team, slipped to 2-2 with 2-1 losses to Phoenix and Chandler Gilbert and dropped to No. 14.

The Bulldogs, 2-0 winners Tuesday in a non-conference match at Chesley Field in Cisco, play their 2017 home openers Friday and Saturday. Navarro hosts Cisco in a return engagement at 4 pm Friday and also welcomes Ranger at 4 pm Saturday.
