Surging Navarro volleyball swept three Region V West squads here during the Labor Day Classic, ran its winning streak to four matches — all laying the groundwork to begin preparations for their Region XIV East Zone opener Wednesday against TVCC at the Wolens Center.
Coach Ronda Shirley’s squad took 3-0 wins Friday from Frank Phillips and Western Texas before closing out the two-day invitationsl with a 3-1 victory over Odessa’s Lady Wranglers.
Two weeks into this season, and the Bulldogs already topped the 2016 program’s win total. The 7-3 Bulldogs rest from their Labor Day Classic and get ready to face coach Tosha Spain’s unbeaten TVCC Lady Cardinals in the conference opener.
Navarro d. Frank Phillips, -18, -13, -17
The Bulldogs totaled 36 kills in 84 attacks, 36 digs, 14 blocks and 38 assists in their sweep over the Borger-based Lady Plainsmen. FPC had only its lead of the match at the outset of the third game (1-0 and 2-1).
Edmond, Ok., freshman Hayley Daniel (13) and Viktoria Velika (7) led in kills. Ivana Vojvodic (20) and Biatriz Berti (11) were tops in assists. Returning sophomore Alice Bermudez and freshman Hannah Barosh had a team-high 10 digs apiece.

Friday’s Prime Time match featured a sensational first-game comeback by Navarro that demoralized a Lady Westerner team that was coming off a narrow 3-2 loss to Neosho County, Ks., after leading 2-0.
WTC led the Bulldogs 24-19 in Game 1, but Navarro staved off eight set points and rallied for a 28-26 win.
NC totaled 47 kills in 114 attacks with 58 digs and 45 assists during the straight-games victory. Daniel (17) and returning sophomore Carolina Barbosa (16) led in kills. Vojvodic had team-highs in assists (24) and digs (16). Berti added 16 assists and Bermudez contributed 11 digs.

The Labor Day Classic unbeatens tangled in an entertaining, competitive match before NC broke the Lady Wranglers’ five-match winning streak and handed them their second loss of the year.
NC executed 41 kills in 134 attacks with 5 blocks from 41 assists and 66 digs in the match.
Again, Daniel led the Bulldogs with 17 kills, her third consecutive double-figure total during the invitational, followed by Hannah Barosh and Destiny Henderson (5 each). Berti (18/13) and Vodvojic (16/10) posted double-doubles in assists and digs to pace the team effort. Bermudez was one of four Bulldogs in double-figure digs with a team-high 18, accompanying six assists.
Game 1, featuring 23 sideouts, 8 lead changes and 10 ties, was just an indication of the even, four-game battle.
