02 Oct Volleyball resumes Region XIV zone play at Athens
Navarro volleyball’s road odyssey continues Wednesday, and the sharp turn it takes will lead back into Region XIV East Zone road.
Coach Ronda Shirley’s Bulldogs (17-7 / 2-1), coming off a 2-2 weekend at Tyler, begin the second half of East Zone play when they face Trinity Valley in a 7 pm match at Cardinal Gym in Athens.
Navarro has reached the 11th match of 17 straight on the road, but the clear focus is the league match against coach Tosha Spain’s Lady Cardinals (19-2 / 1-2). The Bulldogs secured a 3-2 win when the teams first met at the Wolens SEC on September 6.
NC posted gruelling, grinding non-conference victories in 5 games over Region V WJCAC leader New Mexico Military Institute on Friday (25-20, 17-25, 20-25, 25-14, 16-14) and also over Hutchinson CC, Ks., on Saturday (22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 26-28, 15-11). In addition, NC came within an eyelash of rallying from another 0-2 deficit to beat a fourth NJCAA Top-6 program within a 10-day span, but dropped a 3-2 opening decision Friday (17-25, 13-25, 26-24, 25-23, 10-15) to No. 6 Seward County, Ks., (20-1).
Fans unable to travel to Athens Wednesday may see the Navarro-TVCC match live streamed online by the Cardinal Sports Network. The webcast will begin with pregame programming 10 minutes prior to game time. Webcasts will be available at www.tvcc.edu and www.tvccsports.com.
After Wednesday’s conference match, Navarro will compete in the two-day Blinn Invitational at Brenham. The Bulldogs also make single-match road trips to Pasadena to face San Jacinto-Central and to Gainesville to meet the North Central Texas Lions before returning to the SEC for a match at home.
