TJC advances to District Meet after 1-0 region title win

Luana Munoz scored a goal about the 26-minute mark of the first half and Tyler made it stand up for a 1-0 Region XIV Women’s Soccer Tournament Championship win Sunday over the Navarro Bulldogs.

Munoz scored the game’s only goal on an assist from freshman Hitomi Konno after a corner kick.

Coach Corey Rose’s Apache Ladies improve to 18-1 and advance to the NJCAA District I Tournament at Tonkawa, Ok., November 3-4, where they will face the Region II champion Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Mavericks (17-1) in first-round play.

Sunday’s Region XIV Championship game was no different than the other two bitterly contested regular-season matches that also were decided 1-0 outcomes.  Tyler avenged a 1-0 loss to the Bulldogs at Corsicana last week.

Coach Alicia Wilson’s Bulldogs concluded a brilliant 16-2 season, with both losses coming by 1-0 counts to TJC.
