Course Work
Unfortunately, at this time, there is no athletic training major or curriculum set up at Navarro College. However, that is something that is our utmost priority in the near future. Although the degree does not exist, the school offers a full list of basic courses that are great to get out of the way before you get to a four-year school. We offer courses that benefit future athletic trainers and are transferable to four-year institutions. Students can also earn an associates degree in parallel majors such as Physical Education, Medicine, Secondary Education, and Biology.
PHED 1311.11 - Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries
This class has the objectives to increase basic knowledge of the profession of athletic training. The student will learn specific skills that will be put to use in the athletic training world, as well as in everyday life. The course strives to educate the student on what happens to the body when trauma occurs. A preventative and rehabilitative method of sports medicine is taught, as well as practices are learned to apply them in clinical type situations. Students will gain a basic knowledge of the role of a trainer, and duties they must fulfill concerning organization and management of the training room.
BIOL 1322 - Nutrition and Diet Therapy
Nutrients including functions, food sources, digestion, and metabolism with application to normal and therapeutic human nutritional needs.
BIOL 2401 - Anatomy and Physiology I
Human anatomy and physiology are studied using a body systems approach, with emphasis on the relationships between form and function at the gross and microscopic level.
Topics include: anatomical and directional terminology, cell and cell chemistry, tissues, integumentary system, skeletal system, articulations, muscular system, and nervous system. Laboratory work includes physiological and anatomical studies of mammals.
BIOL 2402 - Anatomy and Physiology II
Topics include: endocrine system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, lymphatic system, digestive system, urinary system, fluids and electrolytes, reproductive system, development, and genetics. Laboratory work includes physiological and anatomical studies of mammals.
PHED 1301 - Foundations of Physical Education
Designed to orient student in the field of health, physical education, and recreation through presentation through presentation of scope and organization of professional activities, vocational opportunities offered in the field, and essential qualifications of members of the profession.
PHED 1306 - First Aid and Safety Education
Course includes training in giving first aid and applying rules of safety.
