The Lady Dawgs enjoyed the ninth straight winning season in 2006. The record for the season was 35-7. The Lady Dawgs recorded a 6-2 conference record. The Lady Dawgs won second seed into the Region XIV, District L tournament. In the District L tournament, the Lady Dawgs defeated Panola College in a tough, cliffhanger of 5 games to advance to the finals against Blinn College. Blinn College showed why they deserved to be the national qualifiers by a really awesome sweep of the Lady Dawgs in three straight games. At the national tournament Blinn was able to capture fifth place. 2006 marked the fourth year in a row the Lady Dawgs have been the runner-up team in the district.
2007 promises to be another year of chasing the Blinn Buccaneers. They should be considered the favorite in any preseason polls. The Lady Dawgs will seek to continue to get into the finals at the district tournament. "Although Blinn is a formidable opponent and worthy champion, the Lady Dawgs will continue to try to find a way to overtake them," says Coach Wally Brooks. Of course, Coach Brooks knows very well that Panola, Tyler, and Paris will also field very competitive teams which could overtake the Lady Dawgs and Blinn.
Several Lady Dawgs will be moving on to play in universities this fall. Katie McCutcheon and Amy Hafner will both be will be transferring to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Stefania Aladjova has been offered a scholarship to play for Montana State University-Billings. Kristina Englebert has been issued a scholarship to go to College of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Forecasting the 2007 season is very exciting! Recruiting has gone well and Coach Brooks is excited to be blending a very good group of Lady Dawgs together. Emily Holombek, from Red Oak High School, will be the lone returnee from the 2006 team. Emily did a great job in her first year and will be counted on to provide leadership for our new team as the captain. Alphabetically, the new recruits are Rachel Barton, Caney Creek HS, Alex Livoti, Humble HS, Aerial Longino, Venus HS, Jussara Oliveira, from the American School of Brazil, Justine Prewitt, Red Oak HS, Tracey Rosenauer, Weimar HS, Anna Sheppard, Blooming Grove HS, Whitney Spain, Eustace HS, and Courtney Stover, Franklin HS. Two more recruits are being evaluated at the time of this writing. The challenge will be for this new group to be functioning at playoff time well enough to challenge for the Regional championship.
The Lady Dawgs compete in Region XIV, District L. The winner of the Regional Tournament gets an automatic bid to the National Tournament in Iowa in November 2007.

Coach Wally Brooks will be beginning his eleventh season season as the coach of the Lady Dawgs. After coaching seven years at the high school level he began his college coaching career at Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas. While at Hill College his teams won four conference championships, three Region V titles, and had an appearance at the national tournament in Miami, Florida in 1996. In 1997 he accepted the coaching job at Navarro College. In his years here his teams have been consistent contenders. In 1999 the Lady Dawgs won the conference championship with a record of 10-2 and an overall mark of 36-16. The past four years have seen the Lady Dawgs as runners-up to Blinn College for the district crown. "The team's goal is to eventually overtake a very good Blinn program and take over the top spot in the region. Of course the challenge doesn't get any easier. To Blinn coach David Rehr's credit, he has built a formidable program which finished fifth in the nation last year. The Lady Dawgs will have many new faces because we are losing nine sophomores. But we are all about accepting new challenges so we will be in there swinging away for the district crown," says Coach Brooks.
