Program

What is Adult Education?
The purpose of the Adult Education Program is to inspire and enable all adults, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Adults enroll to seek employment, advance on the job, pursue a college education, and/or for personal enrichment. All classes and instructional materials used in the classroom are also available free of charge. Classes are available in Navarro, Ellis, Hunt, Kaufman, and Rockwall counties.

The program offers:

  • Basic reading, writing and mathematics classes.
  • General Educational Development (GED) preparation class.
  • English as a second language class.
  • Individual educational counseling and career planning.
  • As an Adult Education student, you can:

Work at your own pace

Experience one-to-one instruction from a qualified Instructor
Receive confidential educational counseling and assistance

Adult Basic Education (ABE)

ABE is a program that provides instruction for adults whose ability to compute, speak, read, or write the English language only at or below the ninth grade level substantially impairs their ability to find or retain employment commensurate with their real ability. The instruction is designed to help adults by:

  • Increasing their independence.
  • Increasing opportunities for more productive and profitable employment.
  • Making them better able to meet adult responsibilities.

Adult Secondary Education (ASE)

ASE is a program that provides academic preparation for GED testing to individuals. GED preparation classes provide a means for determining the edcational level of adults who did not complete a formal high school education. Courses included curriculum in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Flexible class hours and locations make this program accessible to most individuals’ busy schedules. A certificate of high school equivalency may be issued to adults who successfully complete the GED examination, verifying that the holder has demonstrated a level of eduational competence equivalent to that of a high school graduate.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

ESL is a program for those limited English proficient students who have a focus on improving English communication skills such as speaking, reading, writing, and listening. ESL classes are free of charge for out-of-school adults. These classes are made to help improve fluency, pronunciation, and to expand vocabulary.
