Program

What is Adult Education?
The purpose of the Adult Education Program is to inspire and enable all adults, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Adults enroll to seek employment, advance on the job, pursue a college education, and/or for personal enrichment. All classes and instructional materials used in the classroom are also available free of charge. Classes are available in Navarro, Ellis, Hunt, Kaufman, and Rockwall counties.

The program offers:

  • Basic reading, writing and mathematics classes.
  • Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency (TXCHSE).
  • English as a second language class.
  • Individual educational counseling and career planning.
  • As an Adult Education student, you can:

Work at your own pace

  • Experience instruction from a qualified Instructor.
  • Receive confidential educational counseling and assistance.

HSE Program

  • Prepares students for the High School Equivalency exams.
  • Subjects taught:
    • Language Arts Reading/Writing
    • Math
    • Social Studies
    • Science

English as a Second Language (ESL) Program

  • Helps improve both written and verbal English language skills.
  • Teaches about the American culture.

Citizenship Classes

  • Prepares individuals for the Citizenship exam.
  • Assist with completion of N-400 application.
  • Helps improve both written and verbal English language skills.

Transitions Classes

  • Assist students in moving into the workforce and/or post-secondary education.
  • Assistance with resume building, interview skills, and job search.
  • Assistance with enrollment process into college and application, financial aid, and advising.

Family and Financial Literacy

  • Helps parents become active participants in their children’s learning.
  • Promotes awareness of financial planning and budgeting.

Literacy Program

  • Teaches basic reading, writing, and math computation skills.

Integrated Education Training

  • Dual enrollment in certification program a local college, as well as, GED classes.
  • Certain enrollment criteria apply.

 

Classes & Test Information

NEW WORKSHOP INFORMATION

 

GED Testing information

  • Must be a Texas resident.
  • Must contact the Adult Education Office directly to register for classes.
  • Open enrollment for persons 19 years old and older, not currently enrolled in school.
  • Persons 18 years old, must have documentation of parent permission (or be able to prove they are living independently from parents), official withdrawal from last school attended, AND approval from the Adult Education Department before they can register for classes.
  • Persons 17 years old, must have documentation of parent permission, official withdrawal from last school attended, AND approval from the Adult Education department before they can register for classes.
  • Persons 16 years old, must have original court order, documentation of parent permission, official withdrawal from last school attended, AND approval from the Adult Education Department before they can register for classes.

NEW REGISTRATION INFORMATION

New students enter classes the first week of each month (with the exception of December and June).
