Mary Lou Percy teaches Anatomy and Physiology I and II as well as microbiology. While working at Navarro College, she has served as a member of the Faculty Scholarship committee for three years, Academic Council for one year, sponsored the Leos Club for two years, and is currently a member of the advisory council.
In 1973 she graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio with a B.A. in biology. After working as supervisor of histology at Scott and White Clinic for a year, she returned to school and earned a M.S. at Texas A&M University. Her second career started at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where she was a research associate in charge of the scanning electron microscopy lab and taught a course in the operation of the equipment. Using the background in electron microscopy, her third career was at Texas Instruments in quality assurance. She worked in the semiconductor, home computer, and defense electronics divisions of the company before she left to start a fourth career as a teacher. Her favorite "type" of student to counsel or advise are the older students who are making a career change.
In her spare time, she enjoys working in the yard, playing bridge or other games, and reading. Her "children" are three cats named Pandora, Shadow, and Squeak.
She has been a member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) for 12 years. This professional organization is composed of anatomy and physiology teachers at the community college and university level. She has served on the testing committee for one year, the scholarship committee for two years, and the national conference committee for three years. She participated in a regional conference held at Collin County Community College in 1996 and was the workshop coordinator for the national meeting at Tarrant County Community College in Fort Worth in 1998. In 2004 she was approved as the conference coordinator for the national meeting to be held in May 2006 in Austin, Texas.
