About Your Award
You just received your award letter, now what?
Review Your Personal Information
The first thing you should do is make sure that your personal information is correct. Is your student ID correct? Do you need to change your last name due to a marriage? If you need to make any changes, contact the financial office with your updated information.
If you do not have your letter handy, click on the Sample Award Letter provided for you on the right. The sample letter will give an idea of where to look.
Understand Your Award Amounts
Next, look at your award amounts. The amounts you see are typically for the entire award year (see sample award letter
), not per semester. If you see a $1000 award, typically expect to see half of the award disbursed in the fall and the remaining half disbursed in the spring. See our financial aid disbursement schedule for more information.
Additionally, the amounts you see do not necessarily indicate what you are actually going to receive. Rather, they indicate what you may be eligible for should you meet and maintain required qualifications (see the sample award letter
for general qualifications).
If you are enrolled in the CE Police or Fire Academy your amounts will change. Please contact us if you are in one of these programs.
Accepting Your Grant Award
If you've submitted your completed or corrected FAFSA and have been awarded a grant, you generally need only register for your classes to be eligible to accept your grant funds. Once you are registered, your grant award will post to your account if you are enrolled in the required number of hours for eligibility. Contact us to be sure you know how many hours a particular grant requires.
