The Navarro College band program has a long tradition of producing fine instrumental ensembles. N.C. students rehearse in a large band hall, perform in a well-equipped auditorium, and can make use of dedicated practice rooms, all centrally located in the Fine Arts building. Combined with an outstanding music faculty and a large number of available scholarships, band can be a memorable part of your Navarro College experience.
All Navarro College students can qualify for a band scholarship, regardless of their major
The first step is to contact Mr. Goodman, by e-mail or telephone call, to arrange an audition on the Navarro College campus (903) 875-7530 or lamont.goodman@navarrocollege.edu
Auditions typically occur during the spring, in the Gaston Fine Arts Building
Audition material is any two pieces of music you have performed during high school (preferably an etude or concert band piece), plus a very brief sight-reading excerpt
A service award of $400 per semester will automatically be given to each qualifying band member for participation in each semester's required group (fall-Marching Band, spring-Concert Band); a bonus may be added to this amount, up to $250 per semester, depending on the ability level demonstrated during the audition. The scholarship amount can also be increased $350 per semester by participating in a second major ensemble (currently jazz band). Scholarships will further be increased $250 per semester for participation in either woodwind, brass, or percussion ensemble. A $200 scholarship is awarded for participation in the basketball pep band
Scholarship amounts will be increased substantially in the case of an exceptional audition, or for exceptional individual music honors such as all-district or all-state band, superior ratings at solo & ensemble contests, or summer camp awards.
