DANC 1110 (Tap I)
Tap Dance is the basic technique of tap dance designed for the beginning performing student. Fundamentals of body placement, terminology, simple tap combinations, elements of performance quality and tap dance composition.
DANC 1147, 1148 - Jazz Dance I, II
Jazz Dance I is designed to introduce basic fundamentals of jazz techniques. Class work consists of warm-up exercises, isolations and basic movements. This class will allow students to strengthen and stretch the body by developing correct alignment, and the class will allow students the ability to express themselves through dance. Jazz Dance I will encourage the student to appreciate dance as a performing art and obtain knowledge of dance in an historical context.
DANC 1251, 1252 (Dance Performance I and II)
Dance performance is designed to develop in the students the ability to express themselves through dance; compose, perform and choreograph in dance; and develop skills and techniques of dance with an understanding of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology. Dance Performance also encourages an appreciation of dance as a performing art, promotes an understanding and acceptance of a variety of dance styles and seeks in the students to obtain knowledge of dance in an historical context.
DANC 1141 (Ballet I)
Ballet I is designed to introduce basic fundamentals and theory of classical ballet for beginning students. Class work consists of barre work, center combinations and steps. Ballet is the basis, with the addition of other dance forms, to demonstrate sufficient levels of technique and theory. The student will develop strength and coordination to perform the technical skills of Ballet.
Dance courses can be counted as a Fine Arts or Physical Education Credit.
Rhonda Long has been dancing for more than 20 years. She is currently the owner of two dance studios and the dance instructor at Navarro College. Rhonda graduated from The University of North Texas in Denton. Mrs. Long is a former 4 year veteran of The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and has traveled all over the world with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders to perform with the USO. She has traveled to Bosnia, Kosovo, Japan, Korea, Germany, France, Italy, Iraq, and Mexico and has performed with numerous professional entertainers. Mrs. Long has choreographed for dance teams and a variety of musicals on the high school and college levels.
