We have received several stirring testimonials from former students and faculty/staff members. If you would like to tell us about your experiences at Navarro College please email Dr. Tommy Stringer at tommy.stringer@navarrocollege.edu and include a photograph of yourself.
Dear Dr. Stringer
Please accept my sincere apologies for not responding to your earlier e-mail. I just returned from an extended out-of-town business trip and am only just now catching up on my personal responsibilities.
I genuinely appreciated your thoughtful observations regarding my "former life" as a student at (then) Navarro Junior College, provoking the fondest of memories of both Navarro College and Corsicana. I can truthfully say that the personal and professional success I have enjoyed thus far in my life are directly attributable to the abundant opportunities the good people of Corsicana and the exceptional faculty at Navarro accorded me. In fact, were it not for the opportunity to attend a "small town" institution of higher learning such as yours- -enabling me to live at home and work for tuition money- -I would most likely have never attended college at all!
To the contrary, building upon my invaluable Navarro experience, I was able to move on to secure my BS (Mechanical Engineering) degree at Texas A&M and, later, both my MS (Engineering Systems Management) degree at St. Mary's University (San Antonio) and my MS (National Security Strategy) degree at the National Defense University in Washington DC. This broad academic fabric that began with the threads that were woven at Navarro made possible my exciting career public sector career- -first as an engineering officer in the U.S. Air Force and later as a Department of Defense civil service employee- -providing me the opportunity to live and work in a host of exciting locations throughout the world.
I am presently serving as the Deputy Engineer for Headquarters United States Forces Korea (downtown Seoul). Although I would like nothing better than to participate in Navarro's Homecoming activities in October, "geographic challenges" will likely prevent me from doing so. I am, however, hopeful that my next (and likely last) job relocation will be back to the Great State of Texas, according me the opportunity to become active in your blossoming alumni outreach efforts. In the interim, I will continue to monitor life at Navarro via your website and be poised to assist you (and Carole Davenport) in any way I can- -albeit by long distance.
Warmest regards.
Jim Einwaechter
Hello Dr. Stringer,
Thanks for adding me to the roster. I was at NC between 1983-1985. I played on the tennis team on a scholarship and received a Mattie Caston scholarship that allowed me to finish my B.S. at Texas A&M in bioengineering. It really was quite a blessing for me to go to school there! It really was a perfect set up for me since I was close to home, could pursue my tennis interests, and I received excellent teaching and support from my professors. As well, it provided me with a sound foundation to pursue future studies and unexpectedly rewarded my scholastic efforts in a way that I did not dream was possible. My family has mexican restaurant in Dallas and when I entered NC I really had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I had considered working in a hospital, but was unsure of what career paths were open to me. By the end of my two years at NC, I had the skills and confidence to pursue my goal of eventually applying to medical school. It really was a turning point in my life when I was in school there.
I am now in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and work at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia doing Cardiac Intensive Care. We do lots of interesting things here in the Cardiac Center and I can think of a more interesting and rewarding job for me. It would be great to go and visit the campus sometime in the future!

Tommy,
My two years at Navarro were great for me. I had a wonderful learning experience in the classrooms, and I enjoyed participating in the various student activities. Some of my best memories are of my involvement as a member and officer of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), particularly my trips to the national PTK Honors Institute at American University in Washington, D.C., (1972) and the national PTK conventions in 1972 (Rochester, Minnesota) and in 1973 (Houston). Some of my best memories are of my instructors and fellow students at Navarro.
Regarding family still in Corsicana, my mother Mary A. Williams still resides in Corsicana when she is not visiting my brother Victor and his family in The Colony or my sisters Sharon (in Richardson) and Patricia (in Eden Prairie, Minnesota). Sharon attended Navarro in 1972-1973 (did not graduate from Navarro but has several degrees from the University of Texas). Patricia attended Navarro as a Corsicana High School student around 1973-1974 and later graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos. Victor did not attend Navarro, but I know he had some interaction with Navarro faculty and students when he was the president of the Corsicana High School student council in 1975-1976 (before attending and graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University). My dad, Donald O. Williams, Sr., who took classes at Navarro in the 1980s, died at home in Corsicana in 1992.
I hope to be able to attend the Homecoming in October.
