Honors Program of Study

NAVARRO COLLEGE
HONORS PROGRAM
Mission:
The Navarro College Honors Program will provide academically motivated students with a variety of enriched learning opportunities that challenge them to take a more in-depth view of courses and to make connections to the world around them. Through rigorous course work and creative instruction, Honors students will be encouraged to adopt principles and practices that will prepare them for future leadership roles.
Goals:
One main goal of the Navarro College Honors program is to develop within the student an academic curiosity and appetite that will fuel their desire to learn. Another goal is to create an atmosphere of cooperative relationships with faculty and students in order to enhance the learning environment. A third goal is to encourage an appreciation and a willingness to help others that are less fortunate.
Why should I apply?
The Honors program benefits students in several ways. Honors courses will help you complete the core curriculum, while at the same time offering an opportunity for a more in-depth look at the subject matter. You will be exposed to guest speakers from various fields to stimulate discussion and expose you to new ideas. The Honors courses are offered in a “learning community” format, meaning for example you will be taking your Honors Speech class with the same students that are in your Honors Humanities class. Honors courses will have a special designation on your transcript and those who complete all of the program requirements will wear a white tassel as part of their graduation regalia. They will also be invited to attend the Honors Graduates Luncheon.
