Charged or Convicted of a Felony
Navarro College is committed to providing a safe, comfortable environment for the residents living in the Residence Life Program. Therefore, it is important to know whether a prospective resident has been charged or convicted of a felony on the application. If the applicant answers "yes," an explanation of the charge or conviction must be attached to the application. The following process will be conducted unless the applicant has been charged or convicted of a sex crime, or is a registered sex offender. If that is the nature of the charge or conviction, that applicant may not reside on campus.
All charges or conviction explanations that accompany a housing application will be reviewed by the Director of Residence Life and may be forwarded to a selected committee to be reviewed. The committee may request additional documentation from the application prior to final review. Additional documentation may include, but is not limited to a criminal background check. Once reviewed, the committee will make a recommendation to the Director of Residence Life for the applicant to continue in the housing application process. In our community environment, this review will include the likelihood of the applicant posing a risk to other residents, visitors, staff and faculty. The Director of Residence Life will review the recommendation of the committee and notify the applicant.
If an applicant provides false information regarding the charges or convictions on the housing application, the individual will be removed from the housing program regardless of the type of charge or conviction.
Each resident is subject to a background check, upon entering the residence life program.
