Annual Retraining Instructor

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Annual Retraining Instructor for Continuing Education at the Mexia State Supported Living Center teaches Annual Retraining classes, assigned portions of new employee Pre-Service Training for the employees of Mexia State Supported Living Center and credit classes taught to the employees of Mexia State Supported Living Center. The Annual Retraining Instructor for Continuing Education is a Navarro College employee but the position is located at the Mexia State Supported Living Center. The Annual Retraining Instructor for Continuing Education is administratively responsible to the Dean of Mexia Campus. Day to day teaching assignments are made under the authority of the Director of Competency, Training and Development at Mexia State Supported Living Center.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for teaching Annual Retraining classes, assigned portions of new employee Pre-Service Training for the employees of Mexia State Supported Living Center and credit classes taught to the employees of Mexia State Supported Living Center through the partnership between the College and Mexia State Supported Living Center
  • Participates in the development and revision of program curricula related to Mexia State Supported Living Center
  • Remains current in CPR and Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior (PMAB) certifications
  • Maintains and cultivates the relationship with the staff and leadership at the Mexia State Supported Living Center
  • Develops and expands credit and non-credit course offerings at Mexia State Supported Living
  • Center with a renewed emphasis on serving all potential audiences
  • Markets and recruits to Mexia State Supported Living Center employees for course offerings on site and at other Navarro College sites
  • Assists in registering students in Navarro College classes
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

Required

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification, or the ability to obtain certification, as a CPR Instructor.
  • Certification, or the ability to obtain certification, as a PMAB Instructor as requested by Mexia State Supported Living Center.

Preferred

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent. Preference given to health and human services degrees.
  • Experience with the operations of Mexia State Supported Living Center.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship, communication, organizational, and promotional skills required.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the community college philosophy.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Ability to utilize computer technology to access information, maintain records, generate reports and communicate.
  • Capable of handling multiple responsibilities.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills and the ability to function as a team player.
  • Willingness to work in a busy environment with numerous interruptions.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and an occasional weekend if called upon.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Variances from regular working hours are necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. This position will adhere to the holiday schedule for Mexia State Supported Living Center Employees.
  • Busy working environment with numerous interruptions.
  • Must have the physical ability to demonstrate CPR and PMAB skills.
  • A 12 month paraprofessional position responsible for teaching day and night continuing education and/or academic credit classes.

REPORTS TO:  Dean of Mexia Campus

SALARY:  $30,000.  (This is a 12 month position to be paid over 12 months annually)
