The Dean of Career and Technical Education shall be responsible to the Executive Dean of Business and Workforce Development for all the programs in the Division of Career and Technical Education. The Dean will provide leadership in all instructional matters including curriculum planning and development, innovation, academic standards, program review and evaluation, program and course start-ups and phase-outs as needed, and other matters that fall under the jurisdiction of the Dean.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruit prospective instructors; organize departmental interviews; recommend and orient full-time on-campus faculty; and select and orient on-line part-time faculty.
- Evaluate department chairs and teaching faculty within the Division on the main campus and recommend continued employment or dismissal.
- Ensure on-line and on-campus course schedules are accurate.
- Recommend teaching load and office hour schedules for Division personnel.
- Assist in resolving complaints and/or conflicts among Division personnel.
- Ensure that all on-campus Division faculty members meet minimum SACSCOC criteria regarding academic credentials.
- Recommend part-time and overload contracts for on-campus and off-campus faculty.
- Recommend new policies and policy revisions related to the Division.
- Maintain accreditation requirements.
- Serve as Evening College Administrator as scheduled.
- Implement and enforce District policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with State agencies as required to ensure compliance.
- Contribute as appropriate to the Division’s role in ongoing accreditation requirements with SACSCOC.
- Review the evaluation of full-time and part-time Division faculty performance and utilize the results to improve instruction.
- Identify the needs and assist the Executive Dean in implementing faculty training and professional development.
- Encourage initiative and innovation in teaching methods and techniques within the Division.
Personal and Professional Development
- Assist in planning staff development activities.
- Involve Department Chairs in decision making and seek input from faculty regarding decisions that will affect the Division.
- Promote morale and internal communication within the Division.
- Represent the College on professional, State, and National committees, as appropriate.
Curriculum and Instruction Issues
- Recommend all Division courses to be taught each semester; recommend teaching assignments in accordance with college policy; and prepare class schedules.
- Coordinate the preparation and periodic revision of syllabi and course outlines for courses in the Division and maintain current files in the Executive Dean’s office.
- Coordinate the selection of textbooks for courses taught within the Division.
- Provide Division information for the College catalog.
- Ensure that grade books for the Division are filed in the Executive Dean’s office at the conclusion of each semester.
- Communicate with area high schools regarding dual credit and early admissions courses.
- Work with Department Chairs to review degree plans and course description in the college catalog for accuracy.
- Schedule dual credit instructors and classes within the Division.
- Supervise preparation of program reviews.
- Ensure that Census Rosters are completed in a timely manner.
Student Oriented Issues
- Provide academic/individual counseling and advising of students.
- Coordinate the preparation and approval of degree plans.
- Coordinate recruitment and retention of students (work-study and scholarships).
- Seek financial assistance for students (work-study and scholarships).
- Address student problems, complaints, and concerns.
- Attend student functions, including athletic events, fine arts performances, and student recognition ceremonies.
- Prepare and manage the departmental and Division budgets.
- Prepare and manage semester schedule, to include lecture, online, and dual credit courses.
- Develop and evaluate Division’s goals and objectives.
- Supervise and evaluate job performances of Division personnel.
- Establish and maintain effective liaison with area high school counselors, instructors, and administrators.
- Attend Dean’s meetings and other meetings as requested.
- Coordinate Division activities with other Divisions to make the most efficient use of College resources and to avoid schedule conflicts.
- Represent Navarro College and the Division to the community and the College service area.
- Advise and inform the Executive Dean of matters related to the Division.
- Work with Marketing to develop brochures for Division programs.
- Develop lines of communication with universities regarding transfer and articulation issues.
- Research and recommend new courses to be offered in the Division.
- Supervise the Division Administrative Assistant and Department Chairs.
- Promote and coordinate program activities with in the Division (John Deere Open House, etc.)
REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
- Master’s degree.
- A minimum of three years administrative, supervisory, and/or management experience.
- A minimum of three years teaching experience.
- Experience required with Business, Professional, and Technical Education, and with dual credit.
- Master’s degree in a discipline within the division.
- Three years administrative, supervisory, and/or management experience in a community college.
- Three years teaching experience at a community college.

- Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
- Busy working environment with numerous interruptions.
- The Dean may be required to perform weekend or evening duties.

SALARY: Commensurate with Education and Experience (This is a 12 month position to be paid over 12 months annually)
