Director of Continuing Education
General Duties and Responsibilities:
• Be responsible for planning, managing, evaluating and causing growth to occur in the Navarro College program of continuing education.
• Provide customized instruction and workforce training.
• Supervise budget development and monitor the budget for continuing education.
• Ensure that programs meet standards, guidelines, and regulations of governing agencies.
• Market and promote continuing education programs/courses.
• Develop interpersonal relations with community organizations, businesses, industries, and service organizations.
• Initiate and coordinate development of Skill Fund applications and programs.
• Maintain positive contact with business and industry and provide needed educational services for these businesses, industries, and service occupations.
• Develop and implement programs that address economic development within the College service area.
• Remain current on all policies, guidelines, and activities of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) relate to continuing education and training, to maintain a positive line of communication with the THECB, and to advise and take action as needed.
• Utilize grant-writing skills to secure funds to implement programs for the various areas of responsibility.
• Maintain positive relations and communications on a regular basis with off-campus deans, the registrar and other key College personnel.
• Recruit, select, and evaluate qualified part-time instructors to teach continuing education.
• Develop course schedules including course selection; coordination of facilities; and organization, production, and distribution of class schedules, brochures and various forms of advertisement to increase student enrollment.
• Ensure that academic/instructional quality is maintained throughout all continuing education courses and programs.
• Conduct follow-up studies of continuing education courses completers.
• Establish written procedures for evaluation systems for all areas of responsibility and ensure institutional effectiveness within all areas.
• Remain current on all SACS Criteria related to areas of responsibility and cause compliance with the Criteria.
• Recommend policies and policy revisions for areas of responsibility.
• Submit appropriate applications, performance records, and contact hour reports in a timely manner.
• Maintain standards related to CEU instruction.
• Conduct and interpret surveys to determine continuing education needs and develop new courses or revise existing courses to meet those needs.
• Analyze the cost effectiveness of programs and courses.
• Appropriately schedule classroom/labs and instruction sites for classes.
• Address problems and complaints within areas of responsibility.
• Develop and evaluate long and short-range goals for all areas of responsibility.
• Ensure that continuing education properly utilizes the DATATEL Colleague System.
• Advise the Dean of Career and Technical Education programs on all matters relating to areas of responsibility and to keep him/her fully informed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Career and Technical Education.

• Commitment to the concepts of institutional effectiveness and the ability to provide leadership in planning and evaluation of continuing education programs.
• Possession of adequate computer skills and ability to use current software packages.
• Commitment to maintaining a positive industrial relations and contributing toward economic development.
• Ability to write grant proposals and manage grants.
• Skill in monitoring and evaluating professional and support staff; developing strategic plans; developing and administering budgets; solving problems; mediating conflicts; developing, implementing and evaluating services and/or programs and program curricula; giving presentations; and communicating and using interpersonal skills with co-workers, supervisors, general public, and others.
Preferred Experience
• Three (3) years of demonstrated responsible duties in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the job.
• Minimum of three (3) years working with upper level administration, preferably in the continuing education area.
• Knowledge of and experience with Skills Funds grants.
Required Educational Background
• A Masters degree is required.
Working Conditions:
• Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
• Busy working environment with numerous interruptions.
• The primary office location for this position is at the Waxahachie Campus but the Director of Continuing Education is responsible for the entire Navarro College Service Area.
Salary: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00
