Fire Academy Coordinator
General Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for coordination of the Firefighter Academy and all applicable Continuing Education classes.
• Responsible for increasing the overall student enrollment every academic and contact hour year.
• Responsible for continually increasing the overall pass rate on certification exams.
• Responsible for recruiting and sustaining students in each individual program.
• Responsible for recruiting and maintaining a staff of knowledgeable and personable instructors.
• Must be able to communicate with students and prospective students in a courteous and effective manner.
• Must be able to manage personnel (including evaluations, discipline, schedules, payroll, etc…) to maintain the integrity of the program and the reputation of the college.
• Must be able to schedule multiple classes into a limited supply of classrooms for the Basic Firefighter Academy, as well as continuing education classes required for continued certification.
• Must communicate with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection regarding the Fire Academy at Navarro College.
• Responsible for securing all equipment and supplies for all programs.
• Facilitate an Advisory Board that includes local fire chiefs and other community leaders.
• Communicate with the local fire chiefs regarding the Navarro College Firefighter Academy.
• Teach classes as assigned to include a minimum of 24 hours classroom time per week in the Fall and Spring semesters and 8 hours in the Summer.
• Assist in preparation and evaluation of the curriculum to meet the Texas Commission on Fire Protection, the Coordinating Board and Navarro College guidelines.
• Prepare annual budget for approval and manage all expenses associated with the Firefighter Academy.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Continuing Education.

• Fire Academy Instructors
Required Educational Background:
• Must possess a Fire Service Instructor III from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
• Must be a certified Firefighter.
• A Bachelors degree is preferred.

• Skilled in monitoring and evaluating professional and support staff; developing strategic plans; developing and administering budgets; solving problems; mediating conflicts; developing, implementing and evaluating services and/or programs and program curricula; giving presentations; and communicating and using interpersonal skills with students, co-workers, supervisors, general public, and others.
Working Conditions:
• The Fire Academy Coordinator will be expected to teach at least 24 hours per week.
• Travel between campuses and to off campus sites will be required.
• Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
• Busy working environment with numerous interruptions.
Salary: $40,000.00 – DOQ - Paraprofessional
