About the Navarro College Archives and Its Collections

The Navarro College Archives facilitates research on the United States Civil War, the historical development of Navarro College and its service area, and Navarro County. The archives, housed in the Gaston T. Gooch Library on the campus of Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas, is home to collections of Civil War documents, Western art, American Indian artifacts, and original woodcarvings as well as documents and artifacts tracing the historical development of Navarro College and Navarro County. Guides to many of these collections are available from this website.

Archives collections are divided into four major areas (College, Community, Rare Books, and Special Collections), which are further divided into individual collections. You may access the collections by browsing one of the four major areas through its home page, or a collection within one of those areas. When available, links are provided to finding aids (or inventories) and scanned originals or full-text transcriptions.

Making an Inquiry

We welcome inquiries by email, phone, letter, fax, or in person. The collections are open and available to researchers agreeing to abide by the regulations established for use of the materials. Our access policy is available online.

We provide requested information as quickly as possible (usually within 14 to 28 days). Please keep in mind that we receive many requests every week and that we have a small staff. We respond to requests for photocopies or research in the order in which they are received by us.

Please make your requests as specific as possible. While we make every effort to provide relevant information to patrons who cannot visit the archives to do their own research, the staff cannot undertake extensive research on behalf of individual patrons. The more focused your request, the better service we can provide.
