The following regulations were established to preserve for future generations the historically valuable collections housed in the Navarro College Archives. All researchers, including off-site users, are asked to complete a registration form. The form can be completed and submitted online. If you have questions, please contact the archivist.

  • All patrons must present identification and be registered by a library or archives staff member on each visit.
  • Briefcases, notebooks, binders, notepads, coats, nats, bags, purses, or other personal property are not permitted in the archives area. These items will be stored in locked cabinets during the patron's stay.
  • All materials in the archives are house in closed stacks and may be used only in the archives, the Roe Ralston Law Library Reading Room or, in the case of large groups, on the second level of the library in the R.S. Reading Arrowhead Room.
  • Patrons may take only loose sheets of paper or note cards into the archives area. Sheets of paper are available from the staff. All materials taken from the information services area may be checked prior to the patron's departure.
  • Only pencils may be used when examining archival materials. Pens of any kind are prohibited. Typewriters and personal computers may be used in the library and archives. Please consult the staff for assistance.
  • The librarian or archivist monitors use and handling of materials at all times. Materials must be handled with great care, as follows:
    • Materials must not be written on, altered, leaned on, fold anew, traced, weighted, or removed from their Mylar sleeves.
    • Keep all items on the table while they are being used. Do not place archival materials in your lap or prop them against the table.
    • Use only book cradles and book weights that are assigned by library and archives staff.
    • Maintain the sequence of folders within the box and the sequence of pages within the folder; pages will stay in order if turned like the pages of a book. Any disarrangement or missing items should be reported to the librarian or archivist.
    • Align folder contents properly as you turn through them; please do not shake down the contents.
    • Gloves will be issue to patrons handling photographs or other fragile materials.
    • Patrons will normally be limited to using no more than a single manuscript container at one time.
  • Food, chewing gum, tobacco, and beverages are not permitted in the archives area. Loud talking is prohibited.
  • Patrons may order photocopies, scanned images, or, in some cases, photographs of materials; orders will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Some items cannot be copied because of condition or other restrictions. The majority of items may be copied for patrons by the staff on a placed-order bases; a number of items, however, may be photocopied by patrons with permission from the librarian or archivist. Patrons may also place orders for photographic reproductions of archival materials. Please consult the staff for full details.
  • Cameras, video equipment, sound-recording equipment, etc. may only be used with special permission and by appointment. Please consult the librarian or archivst.
  • Prior arrangements are required for the use of special materials such as uncataloged items and materials stored off-site.
  • THE RESEARCHER ASSUMES FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONFORMING TO THE LAWS OF COPYRIGHT, LITERARY PROPERTY RIGHTS, AND LIBEL.

Research assistance and guidance is readily available from the library staff. Please feel free to ask for help.
