May 10, 2017–Owens Corning Insulating Systems, LLC and Navarro College were presented with a $494,581 Skills Development grant to fund a partnership to provide job training that will benefit workers in the North Central Texas area.
The grant will be used to provide customized training to 278 incumbent workers for industry-related topics with focused instruction on manufacturing skills. Trainees will include electricians, machine operators, mechanics and packing attendants. Upon completion of training, the workers will receive an average wage of $25.11.
TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Julian Alvarez presented the check to representatives from Owens Corning and Navarro College. In his remarks he stated that the regional economic impact of this grant will be $805,424. In addition, he stated that the collaboration between TWC, City of Waxahachie, Chamber of Commerce, Owens Corning and Navarro College is something to be very proud of and will foster more growth.
