Navarro College Receives T-Stem Scholarship Grant

Adds 94 STEM scholarships totaling $247,370

July 17, 2014, Corsicana, Texas: Navarro College has been awarded a T-STEM Scholarship grant in the amount of $294,370 from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to allow for 94 merit-based scholarships to qualifying, high-achieving, full-time students pursuing careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and related fields. The Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (T-STEM) Scholarship grant was established by House Bill 2910, passed by the 82nd Legislature, Regular Session in 2011. The T-STEM program is funded through a grant from the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation, provided to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for the 2012-2013 biennium.

The T-STEM Scholarship grant will continue to strengthen the Navarro College mission by providing educational opportunities that empower students to achieve their personal, academic, and career goals and that promote life-long learning.

T-STEM Scholarship grants will allow Navarro College to provide merit-based scholarships to qualifying, high-achieving full-time students pursuing careers in STEM and related fields. Eligibility is based on grade point average and successful completion of courses that lead to degrees and careers in specified STEM fields. Navarro College will partner with local business and industry to identify local employment needs in T-STEM occupations and to develop part-time employment opportunities for scholarship recipients.

Navarro College is a two-year public institution consisting of a main campus located in Corsicana, with branches in Mexia, Midlothian, Waxahachie, and Fairfield, Texas. Navarro College service district includes Navarro, Ellis, Freestone, Limestone and Leon counties with a student enrollment of more than ten thousand students.
