Program Goal
The goal of the Navarro College Associate Degree Nursing Program is to prepare graduates for employment in health care settings as safe, effective, competent, and caring registered nurses within the role of the Associate Degree Nurse.
Program Entry Paths - "Pathways to Success"
The Program offers two entry level tracks- Generic and LVN-RN Bridge. Generic, non-licensed, students start each fall semester. Licensed Vocational Nurses who qualify for Bridge entry start in the first summer semester and then join a generic class for the final fall and spring semesters of the Program. Program, Admission
Program applications are available at Information Sessions. Information Sessions are conducted at various times each year starting each November and continuing through January. Prior to attending an Information Session, prospective applicants are encouraged to enroll in and complete general education courses that are included on the degree plan. Pre-application advisement is available from Program faculty and staff as well from Navarro College Counselors.
Enrollment in the program is limited and selective. Admission to Navarro College does not guarantee admission to the program. For full admission to the program, applicants must meet eligibility requirements which include but are not limited to: completion of satisfying any licensure eligibility issues through the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas and prior approval from clinical agencies if there is a finding on the criminal background check; satisfying requirements for immunizations; and other program specific criteria. Specific requirements are presented at Program Information Sessions.
Note: Criminal background checks and drug screens are required prior to full acceptance to the Program.
Pathways to Success
Generic Path Starts Each Fall
LVN-RN Bridge Path Starts Each Summer
Generic = 5 semesters of RNSG courses
LVN-RN Bridge = 2 summer semesters of RNSG courses & then 2 semesters of sophomore RNSG courses
NOTE: LVN-RN Bridge - Must be an experienced LVN. (See LVN-RN Bridge Information)
Prospective students are encouraged to complete prerequisite courses and all other general education courses prior to Program application. Enrollment in RNSG courses requires admission to the Program.
Projected Number of Students Admitted
Generic Fall Admission = 35 students
LVN-RN Bridge Summer Admission = 10 - 20 students
The number of students admitted is based on TX BNE requirements and number of faculty.
Special Requirements
Preparing to become a nurse requires careful consideration. As a prospective student, you should be aware of skills and aptitudes required for successful completion of the Program and for entry into the profession of nursing. Skills and aptitudes include test-taking skills, analytical thinking, reading comprehension, written and verbal communication skills, mathematical skills for dosage calculation, and emotional stability.
Students must meet all program requirements for clinical placement and clinical agency requirements. There requirements include immunization for Hepatitis B or proof of immunity, negative drug screenings and completed criminal history background checks prior to full acceptance into the Program.
