Program Information:The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program prepares students to enter the field of occupational therapy through academic and clinical studies. Upon completion of coursework, students are awarded an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree. Graduates are able to sit for the national certification exam for occupational therapy assistants provided by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) to become a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). Employment requirements, such as state licensure, vary from state to state and among counties. Each student is encouraged to understand employment requirements of the state or nation in which he/she wishes to work.
The curriculum is designed to meet the standards of the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE). The location and phone number for ACOTE can be found on the Accreditation Page of the Navarro College OTA website. The Navarro College OTA Program is accredited by ACOTE.
The OTA curriculum includes both classroom education at Navarro College and fieldwork (clinical & practicum) training at various healthcare facilities.
Admission to the OTA Program is a separate procedure from admission to Navarro College. Applicants must meet all admission criteria for Navarro College. After acceptance by Navarro College as a student, the student may submit an application to the OTA program.
Program applicants are ranked for admission utilizing a point system based on:
- Completion of Texas Higher Education Assessment requirements (THEA) or exemption from Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements;
- Completion of the required science or science elective with a grade of “C” or better;
- Completion of prerequisites for the OTA program and college attended;
- Proof of cleared criminal history background check.
Additional admission requirements: Completed Volunteer Form demonstrating knowledge of occupational therapy through personal experience, work or volunteer/observation hours.

Graduation and clinical training requirements will include the following:
- All coursework completed with a grade of “C” or better;
- Proof of required or state mandated health screenings and immunizations and CPR. Note: Clinical and practicum training may require drug screening.
- Clinical and practicum training at healthcare facilities which may require driving within 60 miles of Corsicana.
- Entry into Level II Fieldwork (Practicum) within 6 months of completing academic studies.
- Completion of Level II Fieldwork (Practicum of 16 weeks within 16 months of completion of academic studies.
