Admission Requirements
Admission | FAQ | Program Sites
The Vocational Nursing Program at Navarro College admits students each Fall Semester. Enrollment is limited on each campus and program requirements must be met to be eligible for admission.
Admission to Navarro College does not guarantee admission to the Vocational Nursing Program. To qualify for an application to the VN Program, all applicants must:
• Be a graduate of an accredited high school or have received a GED certificate.
• Take the Accuplacer Test and pass all elements. This test must be completed within one year of the requested application to the LVN Program.
• If the applicant meets the minimum requirements, he/she will receive an application to the Vocational Nursing Program as well as other pertinent data regarding admission.
• Pass a state approved placement test (THEA, ASSET, or Accuplacer)
NOTE: No applicant will receive an application to the Vocational Nursing Program until all of the above requirements are met. Meeting this criteria does not guarantee admission to the Vocation Nursing Program. All applicants must take the Accuplacer regardless of academic status.
Required Courses
No prerequisites are required, but Math Proficiency is advised before entry. Each course in the LVN Program must be successfully completed with a minimum grade of 75 in order to proceed within the program.

Accuplacer Test Information
Registration for the Accuplacer Test is completed by calling the Testing Center at Navarro College. The exam is utilized for a portion of admission ranking points. More information about this test can be obtained through the Testing Center web page.
Students should prepare themselves mentally and physically for the Accuplacer Test. Some anxiety is expected and it is normal to feel threatened and scared about testing. Prepare yourself mentally. Practice reading for understanding of a concept and practice various math calculations. Prepare physically. Get plenty of exercise, eat healthy, and get adequate rest and sleep. Above all, have a positive outlook, set realistic goals, and expect a positive outcome.
Information Sessions
All interested students are encouraged to attend an "Information Session". These sessions are held the last Friday of each month starting in September through February (no session is held in December). Program application procedures and acceptance policies are discussed in detail at the sessions.
These informative sessions are held on the Corsicana Campus in Room 400 of the Bain's Center from 10 am to 12 noon. Reservations are NOT required, but seating is limited. Attendees are asked to be on time and not bring children.
NOTE: If an interested student cannot attend an Information Session, all data regarding the application process may be reviewed on-line. To receive an application packet, follow the process listed below.

Criminal Background History and Drug Testing
All prospective students for the Vocational Nursing Program at Navarro College are required to submit to a criminal background check. This is a requirement of Navarro College and the clinical facilities with whom the Vocational Nursing Program has contracted to complete clinical rotations and provide patient care. Interested students who refuse to participate in the Criminal Background History Check will not receive an application to the Vocational Nursing Program.
Results of the Criminal Background History Check must be received by the Vocational Nursing Department by the program application deadline or the application will not be considered for admission.
If the Criminal Background History Check is positive for criminal activity which does not meet the requirements for clinical experience, the applicant will be notified they are not qualified for entrance into the LVN Program unless they have been cleared by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.
Prospective students who know they have a criminal background are required to complete "Declaratory Orders" for the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas. The "Declaratory Orders" must be submitted and results received by the Vocational Nursing Program before the applicant can be considered for admission. This process can take as long as 3-6 months; therefore, prospective students with a criminal background are encouraged to start this process early. Declaratory Order packets can be downloaded from the BNE website.
All students accepted into the Navarro College Vocational Nursing Program are required to have urine drug screens. Payment for the screening is the responsibility of the student and is due on or before the date designated by the VN Program. The date and time of the random test will be at the discretion of the VN Department. Failure to provide the required payment by the due date will result in non-admission to the VN Program.
Foreign Student Applicants:
Applicants with foreign transcripts must have those transcripts evaluated by a certified agency with a report to Navarro College or they cannot be considered for entrance. Further information can be obtained from the Counseling Office regarding this rule.
Qualified applicants are ranked for admission based on the following criteria:
• Scores on the Accuplacer Test
• Grades obtained in previous college courses (all courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better)
• Grades obtained in "substituted" courses
• Previous work experience and/or health care certification
