Softball leaves Island 3-3

GALVESTON — The Navarro Bulldogs softball team struggled to a 1-3 finish during the two-day Island Invitational Tournament hosted by Galveston College.

Navarro slipped to 3-3 on the season, heading into Monday’s scheduled home-opening doubleheader against Hill College at Jesse and Lou Cummings Field.

The Bulldogs opened play Friday with a 5-4 loss to San Jacinto, and ended their three-game day with a 5-4, eight-inning loss to host Galveston.  In between, Navarro scored a 6-4 win over Alvin.  On Saturday, the 15th-ranked Bulldogs dropped an 11-2, five-inning decision to Blinn.  Second-ranked Blinn is the defending Region XIV champion and four-time NJCAA Tournament qualifier.

Coach Jessica Karenke-Burke’s team is scheduled to play a non-conference twinbill at home Wednesday against Angelina before it enters play in the Blinn Round-Robin Tournament at Brenham.
